Everything is ready for tomorrow's declaration by President Goodluck
Jonathan for running for a second term in office. The Eagle Square in
Abuja was selected as place for the declaration, where over 2,000
groups, civil society organisations, supporters and admirers from all
over the country are expected to participate.Security operatives
including the army, police, men of the Department of the State
Security Service (DSS) have been arranged to safe the venue.
On the President's formal declaration, security men, including
anti-terrorism personnel had deployed themselves in all tactical
locations in and around the Federal Capital Territory as at yesterday
afternoon, frisking commuters and motorists.According to the Vanguard
the declaration would hold at the same time in six cities of world.
Four of the cities where the events will be held are in the United
States of America: Washington DC, San Francisco, Los Angeles and
Houston while the other two are London (United Kingdom) and
Johannesburg (South Africa).
Meanwhile, while those in London and Johannesburg, whose time zone is
like to Nigeria will join the declaration live, others in the U.S.
with different time zone, will join it later.
Jonathan's declaration was reportedly delayed to guarantee that there
was no opposition to his candidature so as to give him the extreme
support to overthrow his opponents in the 2015 presidential elections.
The head of the country has launched his battle slogan, "Nigerians
First, Nigerians Always," which he hopes to use to persuade the
people, as he attempts to win a second term in office.Senator Aniete
Okon, chairman of the media sub-committee of the presidential
declaration committee, said at a press conference that Jonathan
decided on the battle cry to demonstrate his convincing promise to
meet the outlooks of Nigerians.
"On Tuesday, for his decision and determination to the seek the
mandate of Nigerians to serve them for a further four years, over
2,000 groups, including his party, the PDP stakeholders, women groups
and civil society groups will be attending this epoch."
He also said government would not be putting any money into the cost
of organising the declaration, as GEJ had gotten out to some of his
friends who had offered to finance it.
On why Jonathan is declaring to race when the fate of the over 200
Chibok schoolgirls in captivity of Boko Haram is still unknown, he
doubted whether government had to wait for the freedom of the girls
before renewing its mandate.
