The leadership of the 'old' Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State has
commended Dr. Olusegun Mimiko for Governor openness, magnanimity and
sacrifice in the ongoing integration process between the 'old' Labour
Party and the PDP in the state.
Commending Mimiko for what he described as his astute leadership
qualities, a former Commissioner for Information and PDP stalwart,
Chief Eddy Olafeso, said the governor has left no one in doubt
regarding his sincerity in ensuring a larger and united the PDP in the
state since he rejoined the party.
He said, "I wish to commend Governor Mimiko for his display of robust
leadership qualities and spirit of sacrifice, especially in his
implementation of the agreements reached in integrating the two bodies
that have become the new PDP in the state."
Olafeso said he and his supporters in Okitipupa area were impressed
with Mimiko's implementation of the integration agreement as
demonstrated in the outcome of last Saturday's delegate election.
Speaking in the same vein, another leader of the party, Dr. Bode
Iwaloye, said members of the party in his Akoko area have resolved to
ensure that the Ondo PDP is united as a result of what he called "the
transparent sincerity of Mr. Governor in ensuring a model position for
our great party as far as Ondo state is concerned."
Iwaloye said it was only proper that Mimiko's magnanimity is
reciprocated with full cooperation from all members of the old PDP,
adding that he first got a hint of the Mimiko's sincerity when he
agreed to share positions with the old members.
In the sharing formula, Mimiko conceded eight seats to the old PDP out
of the existing 26 seats while the old PDP got three House of
Representatives seats from the existing nine and one senatorial seat
from the existing three.
Also commending the governor for success of the delegate election, Mr.
Ibunkun Osho said members of his constituency in Akure have been fully
integrated into the party, adding that members of new PDP in his area
met on Sunday to review the congress and how to help Mimiko
consolidate on the gains so far recorded in his unification bid.
Osho said, "By now, those who may still be in doubt of fair play by
the governor should have by the development at last Saturday election
have a rethink."
He called on all party members to support the party leader to ensure a
united and formidable PDP in the state.
